buildbot: lots of packages fail on several platforms due to "C compiler cannot create executables"

Recently, 1-2 seeks ago, buildbot seems to fail to compile lots of packages due to configure error for missing C compiler, or if they are not using configure, for a missing compiler:
Example:
ccrypt in mips24kc, no changes for ages.
http://downloads.lede-project.org/snapshots/faillogs/mips_24kc/packages/ccrypt/compile.txt
checking for mips-openwrt-linux-gcc... ccache_cc checking whether the C compiler works... no configure: error: in `/data/bowl-builder/mips_24kc/build/sdk/build_dir/target-mips_24kc_musl/ccrypt-1.10': configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
http://downloads.lede-project.org/snapshots/faillogs/mips_24kc/packages/vsftpd/tls/compile.txt
ccache: error: Could not find compiler "mips-openwrt-linux-musl-gcc" in PATH
Based on those, this might also be ccache-related.
The list of downloadable packages (from packages feed) contains practically only non-C packages (i.e. pure scripts, perl-based, python-based etc.)

But the faillogs dir is quite full:
